Does the character count include spaces?

Yes. The main count includes spaces, punctuation and line breaks. We also show a separate count with all whitespace removed.

Why does my count differ from another tool?

Some tools handle line breaks or trailing spaces differently, and some count emoji as several characters. We count Unicode code points, matching how most platforms measure length.

How many characters can I post on X?

Free accounts are limited to 280 characters. Links, mentions and most emoji all count toward that limit.

What is the ideal meta description length?

Around 150 to 160 characters. Google usually truncates descriptions longer than that on desktop.

How are emoji counted?

Simple emoji count as one or two characters; flags and skin-tone variants can count as more because they combine several Unicode code points.

How character counting works

“With spaces” counts every character you can see — letters, digits, punctuation, spaces and line breaks. “Without spaces” strips all whitespace, which is how many style guides and design tools measure length.

We count by Unicode code points, so an accented letter or most symbols count as one character. Emoji and some flags combine several code points and may count as more than one — the same way social platforms count them.
